Nacho Monreal believes Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain is the kind of player the Gunners need to push them towards silverware.
Arsenal desperately need a star signing up front to share the goal scoring burden with Olivier Giroud who enjoyed a successful debut campaign in England however failed to reach the height of the departed captain Robin van Persie.
Reports are heating up that Higuain is closing in on a £22m transfer to Emirates this summer, and Monreal who has faced the Argentina striker while playing in La Liga for Malaga believes he can add the goals that the Gunners crave.
Monreal told Spanish newspaper Marca:
I would love it. Higuain is a part of football, and I always loved how he played for Real Madrid.
He is a scorer and would be a reinforcement that we could really use.
Arsenal are one of the biggest teams in England and this summer they are working towards good signings to break that [trophy-less] streak.
Higuain will certainly add goals to Arsenal’s game, he’s a natural finisher and has been prolific in Spain. Despite playing second fiddle to Benzema, the French-born striker managed 16 La Liga goals in 19 starts this season (plus nine substitute appearances) as well as managing five assists. He will certainly go a long way in finally replacing Van Persie’s shooting boots.
Hopefully a deal for the Argentine will be wrapped up soon so he can be integrated into the setup during pre-season, however Juventus will do all they can to get a look in. Nothing is set in stone, but Arsenal do have the resources to purchase the forward. Get him Wenger!
