Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed reports suggesting Gonzalo Higuain has agreed to move to Napoli, however his comments failed to produce any conviction that he will remain a Real Madrid player in the future.
Arsenal have attempted to bring in the Argentine striker to strengthen their frontline but the trail seemed to have gone cold with rumours of an agreement with Napoli threatening a potential deal the Gunners.
The newly instated Madrid boss Ancelotti responded to questions in the press conference after his sides 6-0 stomping of Bournemouth, where Higuain got on the scoresheet, confirming that for now he is still a Madrid player:
Not true, I don’t have any news about this [a deal with Napoli].
I think that now we have to speak about Higuain as a Real Madrid player. He is a fantastic player and a fantastic striker who took one minute to score tonight.
I spoke to him this week. He is a Real Madrid player and until we have news we have to consider him as a Real Madrid player and I would like him to stay with us.
He is very important to us and nothing else – it is not my business to judge the price of a player.
Higuain’s future seems far from sorted but it is positive news for the Gunners to hear that no deal is sorted with Napoli.
Arsenal are well into their pre-season preparations but do not seem close to securing a top name striker just yet. Many fans had hoped a senior signing would have been declared nice and early in the window but yet again patience must be exercised.
Ancelotti’s indecisive quotes over Higuain’s future bodes well for Arsenal’s hopes in securing the striker however it appears Madrid are hoping to land a lot more money for him then £25m.
Personally he’s worth the extra cash, it’s in Wenger’s best interests to splash some extra cash and secure the frontman, he can bring plenty of goals to the Gunners and discipline something Suarez cannot guarantee.
