Arsenal have re-opened talks with Liverpool over a possible move for striker Luis Suarez, according to the Daily Mail. The Gunners have already had a £30million bid rejected by the Anfield club for the want-away striker and it is now reported that the north London side will come back with a renewed bid worth around £35million.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants to explore the possibility of signing Suarez following the strikers comments about being linked with a move to North London.
Arsenal believe they have a realistic chance of signing Suarez this summer, but £35million is unlikely to be enough to tempt Liverpool.Upon announcing his desire to quit Liverpool, Suarez insisted he wanted to leave England. But Arsenal have been assured that Suarez would consider a move to the Emirates Stadium, despite his earlier claims.
Liverpool are hoping that teams would be willing to cough-up a fee in the region £40-45 million for Suarez, should they sell him at all, as manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted from the beginning that the club has no intention of selling their star player in the summer transfer window.
The Uruguayan has been very open about his future and has admitted on several occasions that he wants to leave Anfield in order to be competing in the Champions League once again, but he has also admitted that he wants to leave England altogether.
By submitting a £35 million bid for Suarez, Arsenal could start a bidding war between the clubs that are interested in the striker.Real Madrid are thought to be readying a bid for Suarez, while Chelsea and Manchester City are also monitoring the situation.
Suarez is a player at the peak of his powers and is certainly one of the best strikers in the Premier League and in world football. He is just the calibre of striker Arsenal need to effectively rest the ghosts of Van Persie.
He is really the complete package: good with both feet, comfortable with his head, lethal from set pieces, very skilful and most importantly, will easily fit into the free flowing football ethos that has been enshrined at Arsenal by Wenger.
Arsenal have always had technically gifted strikers in Wenger’s time at the club, with Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry quickly coming to mind, and these were players that could turn games around with a piece of individual brilliance, something Suarez does regularly for Liverpool.
Suarez has had a highly controversial time in England, firstly with the Patrice Evra racial abuse case and then the biting incident involving Branislav Ivanovic, and these events have smeared his reputation in the country.
Wenger needs to weigh the pros and cons of signing Suarez, and although one of the cons would be the non-availability of Suarez for the first six games of the new season, I still think the pros far outweigh the cons because Arsenal would be getting a world-class forward at the peak of his powers.
Eventhough i claimed pros outweigh the cons i am still confused whether we want him or not. What do you say Gooners?
