Barcelona coach Tito Vilanova has confirmed that reported Arsenal and Manchester United target Cesc Fabregas wants to remain at the Camp Nou.
The former Gunners captain has endured a mixed start to his Barcelona career, struggling to hold down a permanent place in the Catalan giant’s squad which has led to suggestions he could look elsewhere to play more regularly.
Speculation has escalated recently with the news that United have launched a bid for the attacking midfielder after failing to bring in Thiago Alcantara, while Arsenal apparently have first refusal on the 26-year-old.
Vilanova however has cleared the air and dealt a blow to any interested clubs, as the Spanish star revealed his determination to stay and fight for his place at Barcelona to his manager.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the Barca boss said:
There have been offers for him from other clubs, but I spoke with Cesc and he told me that he was still determined to stay here and be successful, so I’m not worried.
He doesn’t want to go to other teams for money reasons or playing time. He knows there is competition for places here, but his decision is to stay. I am relaxed about the situation.
It is a good sign that the club gets offers for our players. It shows we have players other teams want. But Fabregas wants to stay.
The former Arsenal talismanic captain has been one of the most talked about Arsenal transfers this summer however there has been little substance behind the rumours apart from his inability to be the star man. He was involved in majority of the Catalan side’s games and the media have just blown his ‘unhappiness’ out of proportions.
I am one of his biggest fans, but unfortunately never saw him returning this summer. If he endures a more torrid time this season then perhaps a return to north London would be on the cards next summer, but nothing will happen this transfer window neither will he EVER go to United. He’s not like that traitorous RvP.
