There is yet another twist in the otherwise annoying transfer saga involving Arsenal and Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, with Blancos president Florentino Perez claiming he wants Higuain to stay and has confirmed there has been no Arsenal bid.
Madrid have claimed the Argentine would be leaving this summer with the clubs general manager Jose Angel Sanchez confirming his departure back in May and the player himself revealing he would be leaving the La Liga runners-up.
Yet it seems the Santiago Bernabeu outfit are playing hardball and perhaps attempting to increase his stock by rejecting his departure is confirmed. Madrid have missed out on striking targets Cavani and Falcao meaning they could be worried about finding a replacement as good as the ‘Arsenal-bound’ centre forward.
It was widely thought that Arsenal have had a bid accepted with the players father confirming Real Madrid have allowed his son to talk to other clubs, and Higuain senior suggested he would be in the Premier League next season.
However, during an interview with Univision, Perez insisted the Gunners have not in fact made an offer just yet:
We don’t want Higuain to leave. What’s more no-one from Arsenal has come to us and made us any offers at all for him. There are no offers on the table.
It is difficult to see whether there is any truth in his Perez’s statement who could potentially be looking to squeeze more money out of Arsenal and encourage other clubs to bid, however if it is the case that the Gunners have not yet bid then that is incredibly worrying.

Higuain seemed like he is ready and primed for a move to Arsenal, a goalscorer finally ready to fill the boots of the departed Van Persie and a marquee signing for the Gunners to signal their intent for the season. But yet again Gooners are left frustrated. Let us hope Wenger gets his cheque book out for Higuain and very soon!
