Two names are dominating the Arsenal headlines at present, Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain. Suarez admitting his flattery of Arsenal caused quite a stir recently and it appears he could actually be on Wenger’s radar, while Higuain may well remain in Spain if Madrid get their way.
First onto the Uruguayan who has endured a mixed time in England so far after his incidents with Evra resulting in a ban for racism and the biting incident more recently in which he is still to sit out another six matches of his ten game ban. He has however produced classy goals and was close to beating Van Persie to the golden boot before he decided to take a nibble of Ivanovic.
There is no secret that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is doing all he can to keep the former Ajax man at Merseyside and is in contact with the striker “nearly every day”.
Wenger remained coy when questioned over the interest in Suarez at a press conference, aiming to keep his cards close to his chest:
Suarez? As you know the transfer period demands secrets and confidentiality, so I can’t answer the question.
Reports had surfaced earlier this week suggesting the north London side had made a move for Suarez, with a massive £30 million bid rejected. While Wenger’s secrecy may cause some excitement, he is just playing his usual tight-lipped games and we are most likely as close to signing a striker as Spurs are to winning the league.
Interestingly Real Madrid are keen potential suitors which is bad news for Gooners who like the idea of Suarez, but good news for those who would rather see Higuain in an Arsenal shirt – a transfer merry-go-round could be on the horizon?
Now onto Gonzalo Higuain who is apparently set for crunch talks with his former club who he had previously expressed a desire to leave. It appeared he was on the fringe of closing a deal that would see him play at Emirates next season however it appears Madrid have taken a U-turn with the possibility of failing to find a replacement for the center forward a factor.
According to Marca, the La Liga runners-up could still include the Argentine in their plans for the season with new manager Carlo Ancelotti set to integrate him into their pre-season preparations next week.
The report also cited an important meeting will take place on Monday between the player and chairman Florentino Pérez to help clear the air and sort out his future.
Higuain still has three years left on his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu and is thought to have fallen out of love with Madrid and is keen to begin a new chapter in his life.
Arsenal need a striker of Higuain’s calibre, and someone who is disciplined unlike Suarez. The Argentine is potentially the Gunners most important summer target, yet mixed rumours are flying around the place with nothing concrete yet to eventuate.
So what is the most ideal outcome from the Suarez and Higuain rumours? Madrid buy Suarez and sell Higuain to Arsenal – win, win and another win as Liverpool lose a potential golden boot winner!
