Bacary Sagna has made it plain that his focus is on the forthcoming season at Arsenal and wants to fight for a long term deal.Sagna, 30, is into the final year of his contract and has had offers from Paris Saint Germain, Monaco and lucrative pay days in the Middle East.
Sagna has stalled on a 12 month extension as he believes he is worth a longer deal and he could potentially leave on a Bosman-style free transfer next summer. But Sagna, one of the most reliable and consistent right backs in the Premier League, insists that he is still committed to Arsenal and wants to stay.
According to Guardian ,he said :
I enjoy playing for Arsenal. I love my team, I give 100 per cent for the team and I always give my best. I’m still here.
Many people were talking about me going back to France but I’m still here and I’m looking forward to a big season with Arsenal.
Last year was difficult. I only had one year left and people were looking at that and maybe thinking I would leave.

But I tried to stay as calm as I could. Now I will work hard in pre-season and have a good season for Arsenal. I always give my best.
I’m looking forward to the new season and a new start. Last year, I broke my leg twice and it was difficult to come back. I didn’t have any pre-season either.
I’m looking forward to working with the team and having a great season. It’s been very difficult for me physically. I was out for four months, I went out to Qatar to do my rehab. Then I came back and had to start all over again.
It was very difficult for me. But with desire I managed to do it. It was not easy because the injuries take a lot from you. But I’m looking forward to coming back, being at my best and helping the team again.
The Frenchman has been locked in contract talks with the club’s officials since December and there is still no reported breakthrough but various sources that he is close to agreeing a one year extension on his current deal.
He added :
We managed to take 26 points out of 30 in the run-in so that shows what we are capable of. We need to do that over the course of the whole season.
Arsene Wenger is a great manager, he understands everyone. The players respect him and want to do well for him.
I believe we can challenge for the title with a couple of good signings. We beat great teams last year, we managed to be one of the best teams in the second half of the season and so if we can be consistent for the whole season I believe we can have a successful season.
We’ve got many young players, Santi Cazorla had a great first season but we must stay together as a team. Jack Wilshere has great potential and if he can stay free of injury then he will be one of the best players in the UK.
We will give the maximum game by game. We want to be successful. We need to work hard to achieve it.
Sagna’s first-team spot has been questioned this season with several mistakes leading to crucial goals last season. But his experience would be vital in any Arsenal back four next season but Wenger has always been a manager willing to acknowledge when one transition of his Arsenal team is being overlapped by another.
But one more year would allow him to share the burden with Jenkinson, to mentor him a bit more, and help him develop as a player. And with a good, injury-free preseason under his belt, the physical difficulties he faced last season won’t be an issue.
With Sagna stating he want to fight for his place it is a good sign for Arsenal because there will be healthy competition for places next season.Should Arsenal extend Sagna’s contract or should they sell him?
