Luis Suarez is determined to push through a move to Arsenal after allegedly being told by Liverpool they would sell him to any Champions League club except Manchester United, according to reports in Mirror.
The report claims that Suarez and his advisers met with Brendan Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre in June where they made it clear the striker wanted to leave Anfield to play in the Champions League.
Pere Guardiola, Suarez’s agent, has told the Anfield giants that his client is frustrated, wants to quit and feels let down over what he thought were promises to sell him if the Reds missed out on the coming season’s Champions League.
Guardiola expressed Suarez’s anger and claimed that Liverpool verbally agreed to negotiate if an offer of more than £35m came in and that while they would never sell to bitter rivals Manchester United, offers from big London clubs, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich would be entertained.
The Gunners had lodged two rejected bids for the Uruguayan, with their latest just crossing £40 million mark, which they thought would trigger the player’s release clause. Liverpool insist that the clause inserted in his contract is water-tight and it only allows them to inform the player, but under no circumstances does it oblige them to accept offers from other clubs.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted the 26-year-old has given up on the clause in his contract that was thought to oblige the Reds to sell if they received an offer in excess of £40m. Liverpool insist the clause is “water-tight” and only requires them to inform Suarez that a club have made an offer of that value.
Sources close to Suarez say he will consider taking his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport and he did go down a similar route when Dutch side Groningen turned down an offer from Ajax for his services in 2007.
Suarez is now determined to force his way out of Anfield and move to Arsenal, he is also hoping that Real Madrid may make a last minute move for him. Although Suarez is Arsenal’s main target this summer, they are prepared to wait for him and the saga could continue right until the final days of the transfer window.
Wenger yesterday stated that Suarez talks are ongoing which means that Arsenal are still keeping in touch with Suarez but everything will now decide on whether he wants to force a move or not. Suarez’s representatives say that they made made a verbal agreement with Liverpool on a move but verbal agreements are practically meaningless, it’s has been shown in the past there’s little point in keeping hold of an unhappy player so Liverpool will no doubt be praying that Real Madrid or another foreign club come in so they don’t have to sell to a domestic rival.
Suarez deal is now looking like it might happen and it wont be a surprise if he puts in a transfer request and forces the deal. With Suarez transfer out of our hands Wenger should now look at other targets rather than waiting on this deal to get completed because the saga doesn’t seem to end any time soon.
Do you think the deal will happen?
