The controversial forward has been trying to force a move away all summer but has now been quoted as saying that due to the immense support he has received from the Liverpool fans, he is happy to stay for now. He gave an interview last week claiming Liverpool had broken a promise to him that he could leave if they did not qualify for the Champions League.
Arsenal have had bids of £35million and £40,000,001 rejected by Liverpool and Suarez’s attempts to agitate for a move to The Emirates have failed to weaken the resolve of the Anfield club.
The controversial striker is on international duty with Uruguay in Japan and is quoted by Mirror as saying :
For now, due to all of the people’s affection (for me), I will be staying
This report was backed up by South American journalist Martin Chaquero, who claimed on his Twitter page that Suarez had told him he will now be staying at Liverpool and is expected to sign an extension.
According to Daily Mail, Martin said :
Luis Suarez confirms to me he will not leave Liverpool. The support of the fans has influenced his decision.
Suarez see it as likely that he’ll sign a renewal (extension) to the contract that binds him to Liverpool.
The Reds have always said that Suarez would not be allowed to leave Anfield this summer but the saga turned ugly when the striker was forced to train alone after he made allegations that Brendan Rodgers had broken a promise to sell him if Liverpool failed to qualify for the Champions League.
If these quotes are accurate, it would be a stunning turn-around by the 26-year-old and the news will come as a major blow to Arsenal, who have spent majority of the summer attempting to sign Suarez, but the Gunners are reportedly monitoring several other targets. Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko and Swansea City’s Michu are both on Arsene Wenger’s shortlist, and Arsenal will now have to move quickly if they hope to sign either player before the end of the transfer window.
This brings an end to one of the most protracted saga’s we have encountered in recent seasons. With about 19 days remaining in the transfer window where will Arsenal go from here?. It was evident from the beginning itself that it will be very hard to complete the signing of Suarez , but did Arsenal have a secondary plan in place if something went wrong and looks like they didn’t have any.
Now it will be race against time for them to complete any Marquee signing from now on considering the teams will be reluctant to sell this late in the transfer window. If Arsenal don’t complete any signing before the deadline they should get ready for Armageddon against fans.
Looks like nothing has changed. What say Gooners?
