Arsenal will have to pay £25 million to bring Swansea forward Michu to the Emirates as Arsene Wenger is reportedly looking at alternatives after failing to land Luis Suarez, According to reports in Mirror.
The Gunners have failed to add high-profile names to their squad, despite the board backing Arsene Wenger with a transfer budget of £70 million. Arsenal have already seen bids rejected for Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney earlier this summer, which has forced them to consider alternatives before the transfer window deadline on September 2.
The report also claimed that Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins is unwilling to let his star player leave unless Arsenal are ready to pay £25 million for his signature. Michu signed a contract extension with Swansea earlier this year and his contract runs down in 2016. Jenkins believes there is an agreement in place that could see the clubs interested in Michu meeting his £25m asking price.
Michu who was bought from Rayo Vallecano for £2m last summer seemed like just one of those average signing for Swansea but the 27 year old set the Premier League alight by scoring 18 goals in his debut season, while scoring 22 goals and making 5 assists across all competitions . His exploits helped Swansea win the League cup and also achieve a top half finish.
Michu scored consistently last season and at times, single handedly won games for the Swans including the one against Arsenal. Michu who is entering the peak of his career, has the ability of being in the right place at the right time and combined with his quick thinking, makes him a nightmare for defenders to handle. The striker would slot in to the Gunners side either as a centre-forward or playing a more withdrawn no.10 role.
Arsenal have been quoted an astronomical £25 million for his services however, which they are unlikely to pay for a player considering their transfer history. Michu might cost Arsenal a fortune but would dramatically improve an attack that missed countless chances in the Gunners’ 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Even though the price looks astronomical but this is what happens when we get closer to the transfer deadline the prices of the players escalate and this is where Arsenal missed the trick. Instead of making a menace at the start of transfer window they waited until the season to start and are now in the firing line of the supporters. It was evident from the Villa match that fans are very much frustrated as they voiced it during the final stages of the match.
But it is the time for Arsenal to show intent in the transfer market and save Arsenal’s season. With many players out injured Arsenal are in need of major acquisitions now more than never. If we don’t spend the money now there is no chance we can even compete for Champions League places next season let alone League title.
They say we have the money. They know we need the players. They know transfer deadline is less than 2 weeks away. What are they waiting for?
