The plot thickens in the Luis Suarez to Arsenal case with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers revealing his anger at the strikers recent comments declaring his wish to leave Liverpool for a Champions League club and a suggesting a promise was made last summer between his representatives and the club.
Arsenal are one of the main suitors for the Uruguay international after launching a recent £40m + £1 bid to activate a reported clause, however Wenger has so far failed in his pursuit to sign a top class striker.
The Gunners have attempted to prize him away from the Merseyside outfit with the Arsenal boss under the perception Suarez was seeking a move away and there was some sort of promise or clause allowing him to leave this summer.
Rodgers has revealed there has been no such promises and feels Suarez will face action after his latest outburst as he maintains his ‘no player is bigger than the club’ attitude.
The Northern Irishman told reporters in Norway after Liverpool’s friendly game:
There were no promises made, categorically none and no promises broken. Obviously, the remarks I’ve read, it is bitterly disappointing, but my job is bigger than that. My job is to fight and protect the club.

We have a standard at Liverpool and I will fight for my life to retain it. The Liverpool way is all about being committed to the cause and fighting for the shirt. It’s also about dignity and being dignified in how you speak about the club. And it’s about unity. If anyone stepsoutside of those values then I have to deal with it.
I will take strong, decisive action, absolutely as there has been total disrespect of the club. This is a lack of respect of a club that has given him everything. Absolutely everything.
Rodgers has however not entirely given up on Suarez reintegrating into his side despite his remarks. The club do not want to sell their star attacker but the Liverpool boss has conceded they will let him leave if a bid comes in at the “correct value”.
The reality is we don’t want to sell Luis Suarez, it’s as simple as that. He is important for what we are trying to do. There have been a couple of offers but no promises broken, that’s the reality.
We can understand if he wants to play in the Champions League, but that doesn’t mean we’ve broken any promise.
What we are trying to do now is get the correct value for a player, but we know we don’t have to sell him. I don’t believe there is a clause in his contract that says he can leave for any sort of price.
Is there a way back for him at Liverpool? There’s a few bridges to cross before that can happen. It’s about the respect, that’s the only thing we look for. This is one of the most iconic football clubs in the world, you can’t disrespect it.
That’s something I will ensure before anything happens in the future. That bridge will need to be crossed.
The Anfield boss’ persistence to not sell him on the cheap means the Gunners could potentially be priced out of any deal if Real Madrid comes calling. But hopefully the Spanish side decide to continue focusing on bringing in Bale which seems inevitable.
The PFA have also claimed that Liverpool are not obliged to sell Suarez as there is no concrete buyout clause, however it seems that the Uruguayan is slowly forcing his way out of the club.
Time is ticking especially with the squad sheets for the Champions League qualifier on the horizon, but at least there is no rush for the League matches due to his suspension!
