The Gunners lost another first team star to injury in midweek, Lukas Podolski now joins Mikel Arteta, Thomas Vermaelen and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the treatment table and is expected to miss the next two months at least.
At the back there will be one change with Carl Jenkinson almost certainly dropping to the bench allowing Bacary Sagna to revert to his favoured right back position. Laurent Koscielny will return to the lineup after his suspension and recovering from his nasty head gash.
Arsenal have made yet another free signing in the form of Mathieu Flamini who will most likely be in the squad for this weekends North London Derby, but is not expected to start with both Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey fit to partake in the crucial fixture. Tomas Rosicky who was rested in midweek will likely start ahead of the British duo in his best position ‘in the hole’.
Santi Cazorla will almost certainly replace Podolski on the left with automatic selections for Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud.
That’s the thing though isn’t it? It’s too easy to select Arsenal’s lineup with all the new injuries and lack of investment this summer. But the Gunners first XI is still very strong and they can smash the Spuds.
Sagna Koscielny Mertesacker (c) Gibbs
My Preferred lineup:
Same as probable lineup this week!
Likely substitute appearances:
Flamini: The re-signed Frenchman should get a run out against Spurs as there are limited options in midfield. He can help sure-up the game if things go well. If for some reason Flamini is not in the squad then Frimpong could be given a run but it is unlikely.
Monreal: Whether it be through injury, fatigue or formation change, we can expect to see the Spaniard. Gibbs can be pushed higher onto the wing if required allowing Cazorla to slot in centrally should Rosicky (or either of the midfielders) be substituted.
Ryo: The pacy Japanese winger got his first taste of competitive first team football for the season against Fenerbahce in midweek and could be an option to inject some venom into Arsenal’s attack.
What are your thoughts Gooners?? No preferred lineup from me this week as it’s a pretty straight forward selection. As for the substitutes, what do you think? There is not exactly a plan B is there?
There is the possibility there may be no substitutions at all should the starters remain injury free (touch-a-massive-log-of-wood).
