Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal will not be forced into a repeat of their panic transfer dealings during the final days of the 2011 summer window and believes his club remains a big draw for players with the Gunners on the verge of Champions League qualification.
The Gunners signed five players in the last week of the 2011 summer window including Ju Young Park, Andre Santos, Mikel Arteta and Per Mertesacker on the deadline day.
Arsenal have so far been unsuccessful in their attempts to sign Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain to the Emirates, with Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria now on the radar. But Wenger is confident that they will conclude deals differently to that of two years ago.
According to Arsenal official website, he said :
At that time it was linked with injuries, we had unexpected long-term injuries and you cannot sit there and do nothing at all. If you have unexpected injuries you have to do something about it.
We are not in need of numbers like we were at the time. We have our targets, we will try to achieve that and I am confident we will get there.
I am confident [of new signings]. The desire of the players to join us [makes me confident] and the fact that we have maybe not as much as everyone writes but we have some funds available to do the transfers.

Ideally I would rather have the squad in place at the start of the season and I am a big fan to cancel the transfer window at the start of the season anyway.
Once the season has started you should be capable to focus on the quality of your play and have everybody with the same players for the whole season it makes sense.
We work very hard on it and it didn’t come off as quickly or as well as we wanted, but in football you have to deal with any situation and be patient. So as long as the transfer [window] is open, until the last minute anything can happen on many fronts.
I’m very, very happy with the squad we have. When I tell you that, it’s about the quality of the players I have. With the number, at the moment we are short.
Therefore I would be a bit worried that number wise, we are not strong enough to cope with all the targets a club like this has. We will not go into the new season with only the number of players we have.
Arsene Wenger has been under immense pressure from the fans to bring in big name signings but so far have failed to sign any big players expect Yaya Sanogo who was signed on free transfer from Auxerre. But its looking that there has been some movement in the past few days(after Villa loss) with a host of players being linked including Madrid striker Benzema.
In the above comments Wenger has again suggested that Arsenal have enough quality and all they need is numbers and this comment again creeps a fear into me that Wenger might not actually go after some Marquee signings but just settle for those semi average players to fill the squad places. Whatever the above comments might suggest but i am still hopeful that we will get some quality players in the next few days who could help us compete at the highest level.
I am happy to see that Wenger is prepared to avoid the panic buying we did in the summer of 2011 and has also suggested that he has zeroed in on a few targets and is confident of signing them. Arsenal are however in a good position to lure top quality players as we are on the verge of qualifying for Champions League but the million dollar question is whether the club are interested in signing any of those top quality players.
