Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said that he would not make any panic buys as they look to strengthen their depleted squad before the transfer window closes on Monday.
The Frenchman has failed to bring in any of his top targets in the close season and said he was still in the market for some new talent before Monday’s transfer deadline.
According to Espn, he said :
I am confident (we will sign players) and we will not panic buy, that is for sure. It’s not my strength to panic.
We have players who have quality and it’s a shame that people only see that when they are injured. You need good players in every position and especially you need an attitude and a way to play the game.
If we add players who can integrate that style of play we will, if not, we will not do anything stupid just for the sake of saying we have done something. We do what make sense, it’s simple.
Wenger further suggested that he is content with the recruitment policy he is following despite a summer of frustration in the transfer market, as he insisted that there is a queue of players wanting to join him at Arsenal. He added :
I can lend you my phone and you will see that I have 50 players offered per day, at least. I am completely happy with what we do and how we do things. I know that it’s under scrutiny, being analysed. But I don’t share the critics what is made of that. It won’t change, no.

I can understand that is interesting for people to read newspapers to see who comes in, who goes out. There is only one thing that matters and that is what happens on the pitch, that’s what matters. Let’s focus on that.
Wenger admitted once his injury crisis deepened, the prospect of re-signing Flamini back looked more appealing. He added :
The ambition is there and he is hugely fit. He worked hard when he came here for fitness. He knows how we want to play, he knows the ambition we have. When I saw the mental and physical state, it was a no brainer.
At the start I didn’t want to sign him. Circumstances and his attitude meant I did it. I didn’t expect him to be in that mental shape and that physical shape. Our job teaches you humility and you always have to be ready to change your mind and I changed my mind.
Arsenal’s only business so far in the close season has been bringing in French youth international forward Yaya Sanogo and re-signing midfielder Mathieu Flamini five years after the Frenchman left the club for AC Milan, both on free transfers.
Arsenal who declared that they have a hefty war chest to spend have fell flat in signings any of their transfer targets and which has led to frustration among fans. Wenger’s latest statements will provide little comfort to Arsenal fans who are still hoping to see some Marquee signings before the transfer window closes on Monday.
The above comments will increase speculation that Arsenal might not sign any one before the transfer deadline. Wenger said that they will not panic buy which either means that we will not sign anybody or may be we are actually close to signing few players, but the latter appears to be too hypothetical considering there are just 3 days remaining. I personally don’t expect Wenger to sign any Marquee player but i too am hoping i will be wrong.
