A hard fought victory! Every Gunner giving one hundred percent and leaving everything they had on the pitch saw us beat the Spuds 1-0. A tense end to an intense game. Here are the player ratings:
Wojciech Szczesny | 8.0: At times he had very little to do, but he stayed sharp and made some brilliant saves.
Carl Jenkinson | 6.5: In the first half he seemed to struggle a bit and it looked like Chadli had his number, but he recovered well and looked a lot more solid in the second half.
Laurent Koscielny | 7.5: Defensively very solid and you could see he was giving it all he had, never giving up on a ball. Put in a number of crunching tackles and kept Soldado quiet all night.
Per Mertesacker | 7.0: The reliable German did well as our stand in captain. His positioning was good all evening and his tackling was superb.
Kieran Gibbs | 6.5: Spurs threat from the wings meant that Gibbs and Jenkinson weren’t able to get forward as much as they usually do. Townsend looked dangerous at times but as the game went on Gibbs looked more and more dangerous going forward and decent at the back against the pace of Walker.
Aaron Ramsey | 7.0: Compared to his recent performances Aaron looked fairly mediocre, but his work rate, as ever, was vital for Arsenal. He had a few stray passes throughout the course of the game but he did a very solid job in midfield, especially after Wilshere had to be taken off. He was also instrumental in the build up to the goal.
Jack Wilshere | 6.0: Looked decent while on the pitch, unfortunately had to be substituted late in the first half. You could see how painful it was for him to miss the rest of the Derby.
Thomas Rosicky | 7.5: Aggressive harrying and attacking play as usual from Little Mozart. He made a number of fantastic driving runs, ghosting past players and taking them out of the game. An early yellow card hampered his defensive play, but hassled Spurs’ midfield well.
Santi Cazorla | 8.0: Always a delight to watch, the Spaniard instigated most of our attacks and was spraying passes left right and centre. Slightly more dispossessions and/or misplaced passes than usual, but I think this was more down to the Spud’s pressure than errors by Cazorla.
Theo Walcott | 7.5: Theo loves the North London Derby and he certainly looked up for it today. He made a number of fantastic runs and I think the only reason he didn’t get on the score sheet was the weight of a couple of the balls played to him. He assisted Giroud’s goal and was seen tracking back to defend regularly.
Olivier Giroud | 8.5: The difference maker. Good hold up play and a number of good diversionary runs, Giroud gave the Spud’s Centre Backs a difficult evening. He took the one and only goal superbly and worked extremely hard the whole match.
Mathieu Flamini | 6.5: He had a job to do in midfield and he did it. Flamini is a no frills player, he doesn’t wow you but he is disciplined and solid. Coming on for Wilshere just before half time he looked decent in his first outing back with the Gunners.
Nacho Monreal | 6.0: Fairly shaky defensively for the short time he was on the pitch and missed a golden opportunity in front of goal, but as ever linked up well with Santi.
Bacary Sagna | N/A: Wasn’t really on long enough. Didn’t put a foot wrong in the dying minutes.
