Arsenal are reportedly considering a loan approach for Juventus striker Fernando Llorente in the January transfer window, according to reports in Mirror.
The 28-year-old joined the Italian champions on a free transfer earlier in the summer after failing to agree a new deal with his former club, Athletic Bilbao. Juventus also added Carlos Tevez from Manchester City to their ranks and the arrival of the Argentine international has seen Llorente drop down the pecking order.
The report claims Arsenal are looking to make a loan move in the winter window as Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in a striker to partner with Olivier Giroud up front. The Frenchman has long been an admirer of Llorente and the Gunners were believed to be interested in his services in the summer.
However, the Spanish international snubbed a chance to join the north London club in January this year after announcing his decision to join Juventus in the summer. The Gunners do remain interested in Luis Suarez but the club have realised that it won’t be easy to take him away from Liverpool.
The Striker has started just two of Juventus’s opening seven Serie A fixtures and that lack of first team football has threatened his position with the Spanish national team set-up, all the more important given the World Cup on the horizon.
Prior to his move to Turin he played 333 games for Athletic Bilbao and scored 118 goals. He also has 22 caps for the Spanish national team. His acquisition would not only improve the depth in the striking department but will also give Wenger a valuable Plan B in the tactical stakes.
Arsenal have an excellent opportunity to take advantage of the situation as it would significantly bolster their attacking ranks. Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner are the only fit strikers the Gunners have at the moment. Although the Frenchman has performed admirably so far this season netting five goals in nine appearances, he needs world class competition to continue improving. Despite his slow start to life in Turin, Llorente is a top-drawer international striker that given a run in a top team would be sure to score regularly.
It would not be too hard to bring him to the Emirates on loan as it would also give Llorente the chance to play regularly to be in contention for the national team.
