West Brom v Arsenal
Barclays Premier League
Kick off: October 6, 2013 4:00 PM BST
We return back to the Premier League with Arsenal set to lock horns with West Brom for the second time this season after narrowly beating the Baggies just over a week ago in the Capital One Cup. On that day, Arsenal fielded a second-string side to get the job done, but this time around it is expected that Arsene will field the strongest team available to try secure a tenth straight win and keep the Gunners at the summit of the Premier League table.
Looking at team news from the mid-week clash with Napoli, there was only one casualty with Frenchman Bacary Sagna picking up a hamstring injury. Arsene has confirmed that the right-back will be out for three weeks meaning that young Carl Jenkinson will no doubt get the call-up.
While Gnabry has had a great couple of weeks, it is hard to argue with the devastating performance Arsenal produced in mid-week without the young German, especially in the first half. For this reason, I am expecting that Wenger to keep the line-up relatively unchanged with Wilshere and Jenkinson the only likely changes. Hopefully the midfield can reproduce the same fluency and dynamism shown against Napoli.
Even though Arsenal managed a win against West Brom in the Capital One Cup fielding a weaker team, they should be a harder outfit this time around after picking up a good win against Manchester United last weekend. The Baggies scored a couple of cracking goals against Moyes men and thoroughly deserved their win. Despite not having the greatest record at home, West Brom should go into the match with a bit more confidence and belief.
Despite West Brom’s increased confidence, Arsenal certainly remain the clear favourites to secure all three points. The Gunners are in a rich vein of form and look to be able to rely on their defence if the going gets tough. If they can reproduce the quality shown against Napoli, it should be a comfortable victory, but expect them to grind out a victory if they have to!
