Arsenal will have to fend off interest from Roma and Liverpool if they are to seal a January deal for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore, according to reports in Daily Star.
The Argentinian international has been heavily linked with a move away from the Parc des Prices in recent months after growing frustrated by the level of competition within the Ligue 1 champions squad. He is desperate to secure his spot in Argentina’s 2014 World Cup plans and now looks ready to leave the French outfit.
It was thought that Premier League duo Arsenal and Liverpool were the only parties interested for the player’s signature, however now Serie A giants Roma have entered the race.
The report states that current Serie A table toppers Roma are looking to secure Pastore, 24, on a six-month loan deal. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger saw a late bid to sign Pastore on the final day of the summer transfer window fail to materialise. News of Roma’s interest is ‘likely’ to force Wenger’s hand in renewing his interest in the former Huracan man.
Pastore was born in 1989 and started his career with Huracan and impressed many with his performances. Palermo beat the likes of AC Milan, United and Porto to sign him for €4.7 million. He spent two seasons at Palermo, where he caught the eyes of a lot of top European clubs. But PSG won the race, signing him for €40 million where he became the first mega money signing under the new regime.
He is primarily a no.10 playmaker, who likes to play behind a central striker. For PSG this often meant playing in behind the Ligue 1 top goalscorer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. But the French club later added Cavani which meant he was forced to play out wide, a role in which he miserably failed and eventually lost his place in the starting line up.
He has an excellent technique which allows him to move the ball around with such pace and precision and is an excellent dribbler too while his passing ability helps him thrive in tight spaces.
Despite the reports suggestions of Wenger going for him in January, we don’t need him now considering we already have Ozil and Cazorla in that role. The money would be much better spent on a striker.
