The game was goalless at the break; however Aaron Ramsey continued his stunning recent form when he headed home from close range in the 62nd minute to clinch victory.
The England international was thrilled to help Arsene Wenger’s men become the first English team to win at Dortmund since 1964 and is confident that the Gunners can continue their impressive form at Old Trafford this Sunday.
Speaking to the Arsenal official website, he said:
It is massive especially after the first game [at Emirates Stadium] because we wanted to come here and prove something and we have done that.
We didn’t do it in style, but the way we won the game shows we have a certain character in the team now and it showed.
It is not an easy place to come to, not many teams can come here and get a result so we have to take that as a positive. We have put ourselves into a strong position for the rest of the group, so it is important that we take advantage of that.

This is still a big week for us, we have a big weekend coming up but the last two games have been massive tests and we have come through them. I think we can go into the [Manchester United game] positively and try to get another result.
We want to prove to ourselves – not everyone else – that we can do it against the big teams. At the moment, we are doing that and we’re happy with each other.
Arsenal have passed their toughest test of the season so far with flying colours. The first half was difficult and a bit of a struggle as they had 6 shots and we had none. The second also started on a similar note and we should thank Szczesny for keeping us in the game, and then came the Ramsey goal which sparked something for the Gunners as they started creating more chances up front and although they couldn’t kill the game off, the defence remained solid and kept a clean sheet.
The defence was superb yesterday and there are two men that deserve much praise – Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny. The German is an outstanding leader and his reading of the game was flawless while Koscienly had the pace to help cover his teammate and was also technically strong. They seem to work so well together and if they can continue to perform like they have been doing for the past week or so then I am sure Arsenal will add to their trophy cabinet this season.
Gibbs has also been an instrumental figure this season and continued to impress. The England full back has grown in stature over the season and is justifying Wenger’s faith in him. His development is further enhancing Arsenal’s ability to keep a clean sheet so long may it continue!
