Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker believes team mate Mesut Ozil has made good progress since joining the Gunners from Real Madrid in a club record deal on transfer deadline day.
Ozil missed a penalty in the first half against Marseille in the Champions League, but then provided the perfect pass for Jack Wilshere to fire in a second goal which kept them in the hunt for top spot in Group F.
The Germany international made an immediate impact after joining the Gunners from Real Madrid in the summer and his compatriot believes there is still much more to look forward to.
Speaking to the Arsenal official website, he said:
He has made good progress. He is in good form and you can see that. Especially against Marseille he was always a threat and he never gave up after the penalty that he missed.
We are very delighted with him, especially in the transition from defence to offence. He is the one who always goes deep all of the time.

He gets himself into good positions so the goals will come for sure. He moves well between the lines so it is always difficult to defend against him. When the centre back comes out with him, there is always space for others to move into.
He helps us create more chances. We are playing well as a team and we should continue that in the Champions League and the Premier League.
Ozil started his Arsenal career with a bang, grabbing an assist within the first 20 minutes of his first game. He had lifted team spirit and was largely the reason for our form and position in the league. However, several games passed and although he has managed five assists and three goals so far, he has for some reason dropped in form but still exercises his class from time to time.
A lot has been made about the performances of Mesut Ozil over the last few weeks with some people suggesting that he looks lazy and plays like he can’t be bothered. I must admit that he has been quiet of late and is performing nowhere near his highest capabilities, however in terms of impact you cannot deny that his arrival alone lifted the confidence of the club and brought a massive amount of excitement that finally they could become real contenders this season.
The dip in the form is just a blip considering that he is still settling into the life at Arsenal and Premier league and it’s definitely not easy to make the transition. A little fatigue is also getting to him as he has played every game this season. Hopefully he will get back to his best pretty soon and help the Gunners in ending their trophy drought.
