Arsene Wenger has claimed Auxerre hit man Paul-Georges Ntep has a great future, providing the youngster remains motivated to achieve it.
The France Under-21 international has scored six goals in 16 appearances for the Ligue 2 outfit this season, with a number of clubs around Europe reportedly interested in his services.
Earlier this month Ntep hinted that he would be open to joining the Gunners and Wenger admits that Ntep has the potential necessary to enjoy a glittering career, but remains apprehensive over the striker’s mentality.
According to Goal.com, he said:
Paul George Ntep has the potential to have a great future.
Whether he will or not all depends on his mind.
Ntep revealed that he has already rejected the opportunity to move to Qatar, preferring to continue his development in France. He said:
I’m focused on my game.
I have already refused an offer from Qatar. I had a villa my disposal, a luxury car and they offered me €1.5 million a year. I have no regrets.
I have qualities that allow me to adapt to any type of game. If I keep playing well, I’ll make money. I’m in no rush.
The 21 year old has confirmed via his Instagram account that he has played his last home game for the club last week after hitting the back of the net against Niort. It was Auxerre’s last game at their Stade de l’Abbe Deschamps of 2013 with the next game at home not coming until the 9th January. He said:
Last match at the Abbe Dechamps.
The likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa, Saint-Etienne, Sevilla, Bordeaux and Marseille are all said to be keeping tabs on the player. It would be the second time in the space of a year that Arsenal have claimed a young talented striker from Auxerre. Sanogo was signed on a free transfer in the summer but hasn’t featured for Arsenal since August, having sustained a serious back injury.
His comments seem like an obvious good bye to his adoring fans, although it doesn’t mean that he will be moving to the Emirates but Wenger’s comments do suggest that he is closely watching the player. We will face some tough competition in signing him but if we can capture him then we will have another promising youngster on our hands that could compete at the top level for many years to come.
