Arsenal v Chelsea
Barclays Premier League
Kick off: December 23, 2013 8:00 PM BST
A game of few chances, and even fewer goals. Neither team looked particularly threatening, both playing extremely hesitantly and tactically. The final result; a bore draw at the Emirates. Here are the player ratings:
Wojciech Szczesny | 7.5: Chelsea didn’t threaten a huge amount, but when our Pole between the poles was called upon he was there. A few tame saves for him to make, but that was it.
Bacary Sagna | 7.5: Was caught out of position a couple of times, but was generally solid in attack and defence. Had a fantastic cross narrowly cut out by Cahill.
Thomas Vermaelen | 7.5: The Captain did well on his first Premier League start for a while, a clean sheet and a solid partnership with the big German.
Per Mertesacker | 8.0: (MotM) The BFG was fantastic defensively, marshalling his defence well and making a huge number of vital interceptions, tackles, and clearances.
Kieran Gibbs | 7.0: Gibbs was fantastic going forward, and almost created a couple of goals. He was caught out of position defensively a couple of times though.
Mikel Arteta | 7.5: He wasn’t given much time on the ball in the first half, Chelsea taking advantage of his lack of pace by closing him down quickly. He was a lot more instrumental in the second half though.
Aaron Ramsey | 5.5: Apart from a couple of flashes of greatness, it really wasn’t Ramsey’s night tonight. He gave the ball away far too much with slack passing and lethargy, and set up a Chelsea counter attack with a blind cross field pass, which Willian probably should have scored from.
Mesut Özil | 6.75: He wasn’t horrendous tonight, but knowing what he is capable of he was certainly disappointing.
Thomas Rosicky | 7.0: Worked hard both in attack and defence. He was a bit slack with his passing at times, but was constantly seen rousing up his team mates and driving the team forward.
Theo Walcott | 6.0: Was pretty anonymous for a lot of the game. He wasn’t getting the right service for a lot of the game, but he wasn’t making the best runs or making the most of the ball when he got it. Was unlucky not to get a penalty in the first half.
Olivier Giroud | 6.75: Good hold up play, work rate and positioning, but once again poor finishing from the Frenchman. He didn’t have much to work with, but the two big chances he got he perhaps should have scored.
