The Gunners along with their London counter parts have all been tracking the 21 year old for some time following his emergence as one of French football’s top young stars. He scored six goals in just seven U-21 appearances for his nation, that has since prompted talk that he could leave Auxerre, with the second-tier outfit aware that they face a struggle to keep their latest starlet.
The Frenchman has admitted that the Gunners are an attractive proposition for a young player, but he insists he will only move if it’s in the interest of his career.
According to The Express, he said:
Arsenal is a club that appeals to any player.
This is a club that relies on young people. After that, it’s always the same question – it depends on the project. Arsenal, yes, but to do what?
If this is a club where I am going to sit on the bench, then where is the progression?
I’m not saying I want to go to a big club to start immediately but at least that can happen in the medium term.
Ntep has been with Auxerre since 2009 when he joined their youth team and after a season in their ‘B’ team he made his debut for the senior team in 2010. He was on the fringes of the first team squad at the start of the 2011-12 season but the side were soon
relegated, which was good news for him personally after the usual clear out of a relegated squad. So far this season he has been in sensational form which has seen a host of top European clubs chasing his signature.
He is a natural attacker who is capable of playing with both feet, is dangerous in all areas of the final third and has great pace, flair, skill and his versatility as a forward is a huge asset. He also has a remarkably high energy level, and he will relentlessly run at defences time and time again. The standard of his crossing has improved significantly since he has switched to the wings more, while he has refined a fine finishing touch when required.
His signing might not be a mouth watering prospect for the fans, as many feel Arsenal need a striker who can really challenge Giroud for his place. However, they know well enough by now that Wenger is a man who thinks ahead and Ntep seems to be a real talent. If we can capture him then we will have another promising youngster on our hands that could compete at the top level for many years to come. His signing might not hold much prominence in the context of this season but it will be definitely be good move for the future.
