Mesut Ozil has apologized for failing to thank Arsenal’s traveling away fans after Saturday’s 6-3 loss to Manchester City.
The German international was pictured receiving an earful from compatriot Per Mertesacker after the tie, as he ignored the clubs tradition of acknowledging the north London traveling party.
Naturally his action angered fans after what was a relatively subdued performance from the £42m man, however he took to his official website to apologize for his actions.
The 25-year-old said :
Sorry I didn’t thank the fans at the end of the game!
You have been brilliant to me and I know you had travelled a long way and spent your money to support us.
I was upset with the result and know I should have come to you to say ‘thank you’ and I know it is a big Arsenal tradition win, lose or draw.
Wenger has since decided to “leave it to the Germans” rather than becoming involved, Mertesacker certainly voiced enough opinion for us all!
Ozil would have learnt his lesson and hopefully we will see more of him at Emirates against Chelsea. His form in front of the Arsenal faithful has been far more impressive this season.
