Arsenal full back Bacary Sagna will insist on listening to offers from rival clubs next month before deciding whether to commit himself to Arsenal, according to reports in Daily Mail.
The Frenchman is out of contract with the Gunners in the summer, and could sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign team from New Year’s Day.
The report states that Bacary Sagna will listen to offers from other countries before deciding whether to commit himself to Arsenal. The Frenchman is free to open negotiations with foreign clubs from New Years Day, and the defender will take up that opportunity.
It further states that the 30 year old has been embroiled in a long running contract dispute with the Gunners after rejecting a 12 month extension last season. The Gunners have tried to tie him down to a new deal in north London and recently offered him an improved two and half year deal that would keep him with the club until 2016 but the new offer does not include a pay rise on his current £70,000 per week wages.
The France international has indicated in a recent interview that he would like to extend his stay in North London. He said:
We are in full discussions, I am totally involved with Arsenal , we are in talks for a contract extension.
He has been linked with a big money move to Paris St Germain and Monaco are set to offer him a return to his homeland, as well as another big money offer from the Middle East. The Gunners have Carl Jenkinson in reserve but there were reports that the scouting network were already looking for new right backs as a priority amid fears Sagna would be off in the summer.
Sagna joined Arsenal back in 2007, moving to the Premier League from Auxerre after three seasons as a regular in Ligue 1. He’s gone on to become one of the Gunners’ most consistent performers, although injuries have hampered his number of appearances in recent seasons but he has once again illustrated his quality and worth this season. He has 37 international caps to his name.
His experience adds valuable knowledge and leadership on the field, helping the team be more professional and losing someone of his calibre would be a big blow to the club and finding a player with his consistency and experience in January would be next to impossible.
Arsenal have only offered a two year contract and it seems that Sagna isn’t happy with the deal and him waiting until January will mean that he can get into agreement with other clubs who will offer him lucrative deals, which doesn’t bode so well for the Gunners. He has been loyal to the club all these years and it’s just about time he’s rewarded with a deal he wants.
