Arsenal are set to miss Mesut Ozil for the Cardiff game in the New Year after the midfielder sustained a shoulder injury.
The German international missed the trip to Newcastle, however the Gunners proved their depth in their midfield with Santi Cazorla a more than capable deputy for the clubs record summer signing.
Arsene Wenger’s side ran out 1-0 victors that helped them finish 2013 as Premier League leaders, however our star man Ozil will be out for another week after falling on his shoulder.
The Arsenal boss provided an injury update to the media after their latest away win:
It is an inflamed shoulder, it should be one more week maybe less, I don’t know, but not a long time.
Like Ramsey’s injury, Ozil’s short layoff could have a silver lining as it will allow the German to have a break and recuperate for the tough January fixture schedule ahead.
One player Wenger won’t be bringing in this winter is Newcastle’s all action midfielder Yohan Cabaye, who they were reportedly bid for in the summer.
The Frenchman feels his side are well stocked in midfield despite his compatriots impressive performance against his side today.
Wenger said on the reported interest in the Cabaye:
No we don’t look for midfielders because today we didn’t have Ozil or Ramsey who stayed at home and we had still three good midfielders and I still had Arteta on the bench so there is no real need in there.
Arsenal’s depth in midfield has been paying dividend so far but one injury up front or at the back will cause some concern.
The window is very close to opening, but before the rumour mayhem gets into full swing we can take solstice in the fact that we are top of the league for the remainder of 2013!
