Arsenal are set to face the rest of the hectic festive season schedule without the services of Aaron Ramsey who has suffered a thigh strain.
The Gunners returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over West Ham United, however Ramsey limped off during the second half with Wenger revealing he will be out for the next few games at least.
The Welshman has been superb this season, leading Arsenal’s goal scoring charts however he has featured heavily in almost every Gunners Premier League and Champions League match.
Wenger said after this afternoons victory:
It looks like a thigh strain. For me, I don’t know how serious the thigh strain is but the Christmas period is certainly over for him. It was his birthday today.
I don’t know how long it will be. We will have to see tomorrow morning. He knew straight away, but we have to see.
Ramsey has struggled to replicate the excellent early season form in recent weeks and would have perhaps been afforded a rest today had Jack Wilshere not been suspended.

The injury may have a silver lining as it will force Ramsey to have a rest and recuperate, so he can come back refreshed and begin to orchestrate games once again.
Jack Wilshere will now be afforded the opportunity against Newcastle and Cardiff over the next week to stake a claim for a starting spot in central midfield.
Wenger feels the Gunners are title contenders and answered questions today after their recent blip in form in the Premiership. He added:
[on whether his side answered some big questions]
Yes. I agree and would we not have won we would have had to answer many questions today. That was a kind of game that of course many people would have questioned us had we not won today and even more if we had lost.
[on proving that his team are title contenders]
Yes. For us we have another good game now on Sunday at Newcastle who are in full confidence as well so that will be another test. The team wants to do well and the character is great. The concentration is top. I believe we had a difficult period just now but honestly that was mainly down to the schedule we had. I think that the schedule was absolutely horrendous but we can show that in the future.
[on getting momentum from this result]
When you do not win for four games it’s important to come back for the confidence level of your environment and yourself as well to win.
