The North Londoners will head to Upton Park looking to record their first Premier League victory in four matches after they were held to a goalless draw by Chelsea on Monday.
The Frenchman has warned his side that Sam Allardyce’s team have already proved themselves as threats to top opposition this season.
Speaking to the Arsenal official website, he said:
It’s a local derby on Boxing Day and we know that West Ham have made surprising results.
They have won twice at Tottenham this season now and can be a tough opponent.
I think everybody takes West Ham seriously and expects great resistance from them. Last year we did well against them – we have to be inspired by that, go there and play our game again. But they have good players, always a good crowd and it’s a derby so they are always up for it.
We have given a lot against Chelsea so we need to make sure that we are completely focused on this game.
The Gunners will look to get back to the top of the table after dropping to second place after a 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Monday night, allowing Liverpool to take top spot for Christmas.
We have been the standout side in the Premier League so far this season, but have had a dip in form over recent weeks with draws and defeats allowing other title contenders to claw their way back into contention. The defence was solid against Chelsea in their last match, but the offence was unable to break the visitors’ stubborn rearguard.
West Ham were beaten 3-1 at Old Trafford in their last outing and have been in poor form over the last month. The Hammers have only picked up one point from their last four games, and have only recorded one win in their previous ten Premier League fixtures but somehow managed to beat Tottenham in the League Cup last week. If they manage to beat Arsenal then they will be out of the relegation which will motivate them to give their best.
If Arsenal can get three points there is every chance that will be enough to see Wenger’s men move back to the table’s summit with Manchester City hosting Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium. I hope we will come back with a bang and get back to out rightful place at the top of the table.
