It’s January 31st, the winter transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight and Arsenal have yet to make a signing.
Arsene Wenger is trying to work some magic, however revealed he is not close to signing anyone. Whether this is true or not is yet to be seen, however there have numerous amounts of players linked with the Gunners of late and hopefully at least one will make their way to north London before the end of today.
The Gunners boss told Arsenal Player:
Are we active? Yes. Are we close to sign anybody? No.
There’s not long now that’s true. First, the situation was going like always in a transfer market – week by week. In the last two weeks it goes day by day, now it goes hour by hour.
In any hour anything can happen or change but at the moment, unfortunately, we are not signing anybody.
So here are the top rumoured targets (see here for all the latest transfer rumour news):
The highly rated German has been consistently linked with the Gunners all winter, and even as far back as November as rumours started to pipe up again after a summer littered with reported bids. He didn’t seem keen on a move this January as his main aim was regular football at Schalke, however is still hotly tipped to move to north London today.
The Bundesliga side maintain they have yet to receive any bids for their starlet, and from Arsenal’s end apparently the board have sanctioned a £37million bid but Wenger is refusing to pay over the odds for the 20-year-old.
If they want him they will have to pay the massive transfer fee now or in the summer – so it makes sense to get him in early. Let’s hope this one does come through.
Rumour Rater: Likely
The Juve centre forward appeared to be done deal, with loan terms apparently agreed between the clubs, however his agent has just come out and stated he wishes to remain in Italy. This one appears dead in the water.
Rumour Rater: Very Unlikely
The 35-year-old Germany legend, currently with Lazio, has only been linked with the Gunners over the last few days with the Vucinic move essentially dead and the possibility of missing out on Draxler. The veteran has featured for Germany 130 times, scoring 68 goals, could be a short term option on loan for the remainder of the season. Bit of a bizarre rumour, however with the German contingent very strong in Wenger’s side, the striker could be an interesting option..
Rumour Rater: Unlikely
Wenger went to the watch the Barcelona forward last week and are suggested to be in for a loan deal for the youngster, however Barca are unsure whether they can afford to let him go depth-wise. With the loss of Walcott and a lack of central midfielders at present due to injuries, Tello could allow The Ox to be a central player and take up the right wing to compete with Gnabry. Another interesting option that could work well.
Rumour Rater: Possible
The Real Madrid third-choice striker looks unlikely to receive much game time for the remainder of the season and has been consistently linked with the Gunners this January. Apparently the Gunners are keen on the youngster as a loan option to help them through to the summer where they will try and invest in a big name striker again. Draxler appears to be the preferred option however.
Rumour Rater: Unlikely, unless nothing else comes off.
