Ntep is seen as one of the most sought after French talents and has been in good form this season scoring six goals in 16 appearances for the Ligue 2 club this season.
Rennes youngster Ousame Dembele claimed on social networking site twitter that Ntep has already signed for Arsenal. His tweet roughly translates as:
Ntep has moved to Arsenal and will directly be loaned to Rennes
These claims have been strengthened by Ntep himself, who uploaded a picture to Instagram showing how he was travelling to London a few days ago and then it was later confirmed he had travelled with an agent, fuelling speculation even more.
This piece of evidence isn’t the most concrete but perhaps the reason the story has so much momentum is that Ntep feels like a very typical Arsene Wenger signing. The French manager has an excellent relationship with Auxerre as he has signed the likes of Bacary Sagna, Abou Diaby and Yaya Sanogo from the Burgundy outfit in the past.
Ntep is a natural attacker who has great pace, flair, skill and his versatility as a forward is a huge asset. He also has a remarkably high energy level, and he will relentlessly run at defences time and time again. He is capable of playing with both feet and is very dangerous in the final third. The standard of his crossing has improved significantly since he has switched to the wings more, while he has refined a fine finishing touch when required.
He also fits the profile of the sort of attacker Arsene Wenger loves working with. He is tall, powerful and lightning-quick and like Henry, he has spent most of the early period of his career on the wing and appears to have the basic attributes required to play through the middle.

He isn’t the big-money signing we’re hoping for and it sounds as though he won’t even be with the club for the second half of the season, but he’s highly-rated in France and could turn out to be an excellent signing in the future.
Signing him would not eliminate the need for a striker who could provide immediate support and competition for Olivier Giroud. There has been nothing officially released by Rennes or Arsenal and it remains to be seen whether there is any truth in this news.
