Arsenal vs Fulham
Barclays Premier League
Kick off: January 18, 2014 3:00 PM GMT
Arsenal come up against lowly Fulham this Premier League game-week and if history gives any indication of the outcome, Arsenal should come away with all three points. Fulham have never won at the Emirates and additionally the cottagers seem to have dropped the ball this season sitting a mere two points above bottom place.
Looking at the Gunners, there are a couple of new faces on the injury list with Monreal out after twisting a ligament in his ankle. Luckily enough Gibbs will slot straight back into the starting line-up after recovering from his own injury in time. The other player who seems doubtful is the experienced Tomas Rosicky. The Czech midfielder was on the receiving end of a stray elbow in the win against Aston Villa, which broke his nose in two places. Wenger has stated however that he may be available if he wears a protective mask.
The predicted line-up looks to be relatively straight forward, aside from the wings. At this stage, there a couple options available to Wenger on each flank. The Ox and Gnabry for the right and Podolski and Cazorla on the left. Gnabry looks likely to retain a starting spot on the right after putting in some great displays, while on the left I would like to see Podolski given a shot. Speculation about the German’s happiness has been rising in the media and with Cazorla looking a little below par against Villa, it seems like the right time to give him a shot.
On the other side of the coin, the cottagers have seen their fortunes rise a little after the appointment of new manager Rene Meulensteen after winning four games from ten. However, the team is susceptible to leaking goals and have suffered big defeats. Most recently was a 4-1 loss to Sunderland and a massive 6-0 loss to Hull, which was their last league game away from home.
Overall, all the indicators are pointing to an Arsenal victory. It is imperative the Gunners put the pressure on Chelsea and Manchester City and there is no better way to do it than with a win that guarantees them top spot for another week! COYG!
