Bacary Sagna apparently is after a three-year deal with the Gunners worth £100,000 a week, is the 31-year-old worth the huge sums despite his age?
John Cross from the Mirror has suggested Arsenal have offered the right back a two-year deal with wages around the £60k a week mark. But he’s holding out for a lot more with his current contract set to expire this summer, meaning he can leave Emirates for free if new terms are not agreed.
The report suggests the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, Inter Milan and Galatasaray have made enquiries, with the latter offering him a four year lucrative deal worth £100k per week.
For a senior defender this is big money, but it does make economic sense for Arsenal in the short term. They will struggle to find a player of his caliber that has the ability to fill in at centre half on the market that wouldn’t command a similar figure.
Many have suggested he is injury prone, however he’s potentially one of the most regular and consistent performers at the club, especially this season. With Carl Jenkinson looking like Sagna’s eventual successor, keeping the experienced Frenchman at the club is imperative especially for the next season or two to help continue to develop the Englishman.
A three year contract is quite lengthy for the Frenchman at his age, however Arsenal will then have the opportunity to sell him in the future should they require to. His fitness remains top notch and he continues to impress.
Sagna deserves a new contract, even at £100k. He’s stuck with the side through thick and thin on lower wages than he has deserved.
What are your thoughts Gooners? Do you think he can should be demanding a massive £100k in wages?
