Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has reportedly agreed to join Arsenal this summer, according to Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.
The 21 year old was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in January and a loan deal looked close until Carlo Ancelotti insisted the striker will remain at the Bernabeu.
The well-known Spanish journalist was speaking on Sky Sports show Revista de La Liga on Tuesday night, when he suggested that the young striker had already agreed personal terms over a summer switch to the Emirates.
However, he was then forced to clarify his remarks on Twitter last night after some fans were suggesting the move was already a done deal. He said:
Morata has agreed to join Arsenal IF, I repeat IF, I insist IF, clubs agree fee. He will push for Madrid to accept Arsenal’s offer.
The Spaniard has scored three goals in 21 appearances this season, but showcased his immense potential last summer by securing the European Under-21 Championship Golden Boot award. However, with first-team opportunities limited and following the emergence of teammate Jese Rodriguez this season, it is believed that he is now be open to leaving Los Blancos and joining Arsene Wenger’s team in north London.
He is quick, strong and has a killer instinct in front of goal and his physical attributes make him the perfect understudy to Giroud. His ability to get goals from the bench would be very welcome at Arsenal. He has proved to be lethal in front of goal at youth level and whatever first team chances he’s had with Real Madrid.
The youngster is a big lad, has also got a good touch and is very adept at bringing his team mates into the game. He is quick despite his height, has earned praise for the intelligence of his movement and has all the physical attributes to excel in England.
He will be a solid edition to the squad and has the potential to lead the Gunners line up for years to come. He could well be the missing piece of the jigsaw that Arsene Wenger has been looking for, but I think there’s still some way to go before he dons an Arsenal shirt.
