Arsenal host Manchester United in the second match of their ‘Helleven Days’ period and will be aiming to respond from a disastrous trip at Anfield.
One of the big talking points from the match was the performance of club record signing Mesut Ozil. The German lost possession a number of times, on two particular occasions the mistakes led to goals and many questions have been asked of the former Real Madrid playmaker.
Tomas Rosicky offers a reliable alternative while Santi is also an option to allow Podolski to occupy the left wing. While the jury may be out on Ozil’s current form, his class is simply irreplaceable. He can produce moments of magic others simply cannot. For this reason I feel he has to start, and he will certainly be up for rejuvenating his form after plenty of criticism from the weekend. He’s also generally performed much better in front of the home crowd at Emirates.
Another talking point is the form of Nacho Monreal, who has struggled in the big games against fast wingers. Kieran Gibbs looks set for a return to the lineup, there have been suggestions of fitness worries recently which has caused Wenger to be cautious. Let’s hope he’s fit and raring to go.
Koscielny and Mertesacker, despite how abysmal they were in the first half, will be selected once again especially with Thomas Vermaelen struggling with an injury (surprise surprise!)
In midfield, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta will play the deeper roles with Mesut Ozil ahead. Wilshere had a pretty decent outing against Liverpool especially in an attacking sense. He likes to take players on and can open up play nicely for the Gunners. He’s extremely passionate and will be up for smashing United.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should start on the right wing meaning Santi will likely operate from the left. Podolski looks set for another bench role mainly due to Cazorla and the Ox’s form.
Olivier Giroud will start up front, with the likes of Rosicky and Bendtner on the bench.
The Czech needs to be introduced at some point during the fixture, at least after 60 minutes. He brings tremendous energy to the Gunners side and experience. If Ozil has another off day Rosicky HAS to come on. He’s brilliant and is unlucky not to start.
Here are is our predicted lineup:
Sagna Merts Kosc Gibbs
