There have been calls for a new striker from all corners by Arsenal fans. With the return of Sanogo, it means there are three strikers including Giroud and Bendtner, four including Podolski. Giroud has been our main striker and has done really well for us. Fourteen goals in thirty two games is nothing to be snubbed at. Bendtner has chipped in with important goals when called upon so while I can understand the lack of support from supporters, he has more than deserved his place on the team as back up.
Podolski cannot really be considered a striker. His lack of intelligence running around the box means we are very predictable when he plays in that role. Yes he has a very hard and accurate shot and he works hard for the team but his attributes are more useful on the wing. Giroud while not that potent in front of goal knows how to pull defenders and create space for his teammates to exploit. That is not something you can teach. Either you have it or you don’t.
I can’t really claim to have seen Sanogo play but there have been rave reviews about him. He has been quite prolific in international level. Blessed with pace and power, he can be a really good backup to consider while he learns his trade.
Sanogo is unique in that he has just come back from injury and has not really played much for us. At 21, he is at the age where he should be able to make an impact in a game while at the same time he is too experienced for the under 21 team. While the pressure on him to perform can be considered very little as no one expects much from him, if he does not begin to perform immediately, he might be overtaken by new strikers in the summer.
I believe he can be the different kind of player from Giroud that people have been calling out for. Quick with a powerful short, he is more direct than the Frenchman and with his pace, he can give our attack more mobility.

Only time will tell what impact he will have in the second half of the season or if he will get a chance. But if he does, he has to grab it with both hands like Gnabry if he is to make the cut!
