If there is one thing that irks the Invincibles until today, it is the fact they will never win the Champions League with Arsenal. For all their records, just knowing they will never be the ones that lifted that prestigious trophy with the club they love so much must really hurt them. Some members of that team like Thierry Henry and Ashley Cole have won the trophy with Barcelona and Chelsea respectively but how much sweeter would it have been with Arsenal.
Arsenal teams have come and gone and some have reached finals only to fall at the final hurdle. Players who formed our core team have left since then to win trophies with other clubs. Players like Nasri, Van Persie, Fabregas, Hleb, Song, and Clichy to name but a few. If they had stayed and fought for the team, who knows what we could have achieved.
This Arsenal team possesses the team spirit and the belief that this is their year. This has been reflected in their performances and results. They fight for each other on the pitch and while their play is more patient and less incisive, it is more balanced both offensively and defensively. Let’s just not mention the result against Liverpool.
This season there is hope. Half way through the season and Arsenal are second in the table and participate in three competitions. If they can manage to be at the top or thereabouts come end of March, anything is possible in the league. If they win Bayern Munich, they can go on to win the Champions league.
One thing the fiercest Arsenal critic and the most loyal Arsenal fan have in common is their desire to see their team win trophies. Conflict arises in their perception of the means to achieving the goal.
This is a rallying cry to the gunners to up their game, prove to all the players mentioned above, they were wrong to leave us and do something even the invincibles could never achieve. Win the Champions League! Now is the time to be stand up and be counted!!
