Arsenal have reportedly signed Nuremberg striker Josip Drmic according to Sky Sport Pundit Lothar Matthäus.
An £8million deal has been mooted for the hitman who has scored nearly half of his clubs goals in the Bundesliga this season, notching 15 goals in 26 appearances.
Sky Germany pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft, well known for predicting the Mesut Ozil transfer and providing regular updates on Julian Draxler in the January window, relayed news via his twitter account of his colleague Lothar Matthäus announcing live on television that Arsenal have made a new signing:
My #sky colleague Lothar Matthäus just said on Sky: -Drmic’s wife has been looking for an appartment in London. Drmic will be Arsenal-player
Josip Drmic is the Swiss-striker at Nurnberg. 15 goals so far. 47% of all Nürnberg goals.
Matthäus: – Will be Arsenal-player
The 21-year-old striker has since responded to the rumours however and while it may not be evidently clear he’s an Arsenal player, it is one of his dreams to be.
The Daily Mail have reported him as telling Bild:
At the moment, I’m single. There is no one house-hunting in London.
What will happen in the future, I don’t know. Any boy dreams about playing for Arsenal.
Not quite sure how Matthäus can get his martial status wrong, but regardless it appears to be some promising progressions if he is indeed being tracked by the Gunners.
He may well be an exciting prospect for the future, but Drmic should not be the only striker we bring in. Certainly someone to develop, maybe even send out on loan, but not a player who can push Olivier Giroud for a starting spot. Arsenal NEED an established, experienced centre forward. It’s never been more clear then this year.
Morata appears to still be on the cards with the Spaniard struggling to improve his regular involvement at Real Madrid – he’s the calibre of young strikers we should be aspiring to buy. That said, Drmic has done extremely well in his debut Bundesliga season.
