Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has praised injured midfielder Aaron Ramsey, comparing him to Liverpool veteran star Steven Gerrard.
Ramsey, 23, is currently sidelined with a persistent thigh injury, but prior to Christmas he was the most in-form midfielder in England.
His work rate was exceptional while he scored some stunning goals, totaling a career high of 15 goals in just 31 appearances in all competitions with seven assists to his name also.
The Welshman was instrumental in Arsenal’s surge to the summit of the Premier League, and has been sorely missed over the past few months.
Parlour has praised the extremely talented Ramsey, comparing him to a player he faced in his Arsenal days – Steven Gerrard.

The Englishman wrote on his Sportlobster blog:
Ramsey was the perfect box-to-box midfielder in the first-half of the season and I always said if he could score a few more, he would be the complete midfielder. He can defend, he loves getting in the box, scoring goals, he’s got a great engine, can keep it simple, and he’s even got a trick or two.
People always ask me if Aaron could be a future Arsenal captain and I think he has every chance. Personally, I always like a centre half as captain, but these days teams are playing three midfielders and flooding this area, making the role of guys like Ramsey so crucial. I think he’d be a great captain. He dictates the tempo of the game and is involved in everything.
The best midfield player I played against who is still playing is Steven Gerrard and I think Ramsey can play the same role for Arsenal. Gerrard was truly world class in his day, and I don’t say that too often. He isn’t as effective with box-to-box as he was a few years ago, but he continues to make the difference.
Bryan Robson was as close as you get to a proper box-to-box midfielder and Ramsey reminds me of both of them. Without doubt, Aaron Ramsey can become as influential as Steven Gerrard. He needs to believe in his own abilities. He wants to learn and is blessed with the ideal attributes for a midfield player. Therefore, I think Ramsey could be like Gerrard. He is a young and exciting talent and he will be a top, top player in the future.
Ramsey was rewarded for his spectacular early season form with a new lucrative deal this week. He’s undergone a massive transformation over the past year, becoming a vital cog in Arsenal’s late resurgence last season and building upon that and reaching new heights this campaign.
His thigh injury has been a big blow after what has been a stellar campaign however it’s a glimpse of what the young Welshman can do. His shooting and composure in front of goal has been greatly improved, and this has always been one Gerrard’s greatest strengths – the ability to create something out of nothing.
His work rate has been top notch, tracking back when required but always looking to make runs in behind opponents defences.
If Ramsey can be Arsenal’s Steven Gerrard.. that sounds good to me.
