The Gunners were torn apart by Jose Mourinho’s men at Stamford Bridge as the Blues dealt Arsenal’s title hopes a severe blow with a devastating 6-0 loss.
The French manager has vowed to analyse the reasons for the thrashing and insisted that there would be a response against the Swans on Tuesday.
Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, he said:
We have to think deeply about because it is not the first time [it’s happened]. It all went wrong and I take full responsibility. It is my fault that we failed completely today because we did not turn up.
We felt we prepared properly, but we did not turn up, so it is puzzling. After 20 minutes, it was game over and it became a long afternoon, a long dramatic, dreadful afternoon. There is not a lot more I could say, you could blame and blame but it does not help.
That is the most disappointing thing, that we were never in the game. This is puzzling because we were shocked and knocked down basically without feeling you have had a chance.
What is important now is we show we have the capacity to respond, despite that disappointment, on Tuesday night.
The defeat to Chelsea on Saturday was a hugely damaging blow to the Gunners hope of winning the league title this season. It will be hard to see how Wenger will be able to galvanise his team again after such a confidence-destroying performance.
The Gunners need a win against Swansea on Tuesday night and with only eight games left to play, Arsenal are in a position where further slip ups could ruin all the hard work they’ve done so far this season. Despite the occasional blips they had this campaign, Wenger has been able to keep his side afloat in the Premier League title challenge and now they simply cannot afford to fall at the final few hurdles.
A strong response is needed and that’s why the Gunners must win against Swansea. If they drop points on Tuesday night, Arsenal will not only have to kiss goodbye their title hopes, but they may well have a fight on hand to secure the fourth place. We need to bounce back and quickly, as it’s now or never for Arsenal!
