Hull City v Arsenal
Barclays Premier League
Kick off: April 20, 2014 2.05 PM BST
A great finish to the first half for Arsenal, despite yet another sluggish start. Ramsey and Podolski applying the finishes to two fantastic Arsenal moves, giving the Gunners a comfortable lead at the break.
Hull started off brightly, pressing high up the pitch and causing us problems with some fantastic balls through to Shane Long. Szczesny was on his toes though, playing the sweeper keeper well, and making a couple of important saves.
The returning Mesut Özil had a penalty shout turned down, Elmohamady clipping his heels as he skipped past him in the box. The referee didn’t give it though, which led to the Hull fans chanting cheat and booing every time Mesut got the ball. That will teach him to get fouled in the box!
Arsenal weren’t applying enough pressure, Hull being the more aggressive; putting early balls into the box for Long and Jelavic to get on the end of. The Gunners were playing on the counter mostly, but were struggling to mount any meaningful attacks on goal.
The gulf in class soon showed though, Arsenal turning the tempo up and scoring a fantastic goal. Özil held the ball up well, and put a great ball in to Cazorla. Ramsey got beyond the last defender with a nice run, Santi picking him out with a short pass. Ramsey controlled it well, before lashing it past Harper. 1-0 Arsenal.
Hull came close a couple of times, Spurs man Jake Livermore striking the post from distance, and Long mishitting a great chance straight into the arms of Szczesny after a George Boyd cross.
It was Arsenal that grabbed the second goal though, another superb flowing move from the Gunners. Özil pushed Giroud out wide, the Frenchman turning back inside and picking out Ramsey at in the box. Aaron chested down for Podolski who rifled a volley into the net from the edge of the area. 2-0 Arsenal, daylight between the future FA Cup finalists.
It’s certainly not over yet, but having gone to sleep a little in the opening half an hour, Arsenal look good for their lead going into the second period. Ramsey and Özil’s return to the team making us look like an all round better outfit.
