When, and not if, Arsenal claim fourth place and win the FA cup, I will consider this to be a successful season. It is very disappointing when one thinks of the way we led the league for such a long period. Even when we lost the lead in the race, we were always near the top. When Chelsea won us at Stamford Bridge, we still remained six points behind them. In the end, too many injuries cost us the title.
Everton went on a great run and basically took advantage of our lack of confidence when we dropped out of the Premier League race, but for them to actually think Wenger was going to let a proud tradition of always qualifying for the Champions League was naive. Even when they leapfrogged us into fourth place, Wenger was sure we would still qualify. He was almost dismissive when talking about Everton.
So Arsenal are not winning the Premier League. Best of luck to Liverpool. If there is one player who deserves it for his loyalty as well as his sheer talent, that would be Steven Gerrard. Liverpool, as a team, also deserve it for sticking to their attacking principles that would have made Wenger proud.
Speaking of attacking football, Arsenal seem to have lost their way. Free flowing football is something I have not seen from this current team. What happened to the time when we used to bamboozle our opponents? I am sure this is something Wenger has noticed. I am also hoping he will also look at the training methods and medical treatment to see if they are outdated. I hope he will address this issue by next season to make sure we last the distance. There is also the issue of signing up players early enough to make sure they gel with our current players during pre-season.
I am confident winning the FA cup will be a springboard for more success in the future. The winning feeling will be an addiction that the players will crave and do everything to experience it again. Besides, winning the FA cup is better than the League cup.
