Arsenal have reportedly made a £18 million bid for Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann, according to reports in the Metro.
The 23 year old has been in brilliant form this season, scoring 16 goals and has also attracted interest from top clubs around Europe. The Gunners have been linked with him for some time and speculation back in January suggested we failed with an approach to sign him during the winter window, with Sociedad seemingly unwilling to do business half-way through the season.
The report now suggests that Arsenal have kick-started their summer transfer business by making an £18 million offer for Griezmann. Juventus are also tracking the attacker and are considering matching Arsenal’s offer, but it’s thought that the player would favour a switch to the Premier League over playing in Italy.
It further states that if a deal happens, he could follow team-mate Carlos Vela to the Emirates Stadium this summer, with Arsenal ready to take up their option to buy the Mexican back.
The Frenchman has also been called up to the national squad for the World owing to his performances and the North London club are trying to get the deal done sooner to alleviate any further interest after the tournament.
The report is in contrast to what reports suggested last week, which stated that the Emirates club are only interested in Greizmann and wants to use our buy-back option on Vela as a bargaining chip to reduce the price for the youngster.
He is a left-sided player, who can also play through the center or on the right. He likes to take on defenders and is as dangerous when running at defenders. He likes to cut inside and use his pace to expose slower central players and drag the full-back out of position. He appears to possess great vision, quick thinking and is an accurate passer of the ball.
The Gunners have up to £100 million to spend in this summer’s transfer window and is keen to sign another striker to ease the pressure on the club’s main centre-forward Olivier Giroud. Griezmann is not a striker by trade, but he has proven himself to be a reliable goal scorer over the last couple of seasons with La Real.
He would be an excellent signing and it remains to be seen whether the bid will be enough to persuade Sociedad into selling as he reportedly has a buy-out clause worth around £24 million, so we may have to up our offer if we want to land the hugely talented attacker.
