The 24 year old has impressed for the Belgian club this season and has been watched by scouts from Arsenal, West Ham, Manchester City, Liverpool and Southampton.
The Senegal international was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League last summer but a move failed to materialise, however it now seems that we’ve now renewed our interest with the centre-back.
Kouyate’s agent Saffet Balkan has confirmed that both Arsenal and West Ham have been in touch to see if he is ready to make the step up to Premier League football.
According to Turkish Football, he said:
I have met representatives from Arsenal and West Ham over Kouyate in Belgium.
We are currently in talks.
I will also meet with representatives from Galatasaray and CSKA in Istanbul later today to discuss an offer for Kouyate.
Kouyate can play either in the centre of defence or as a defensive midfielder and has experience of Champions League football. He has featured in all of Anderlecht’s six Champions League fixtures this season and is reported to be available for a fee of around £8 million.
He stands at 6 ft 3 in and adds a great presence in the air, while he has shown to be more than capable of getting forward and hurting opponents for Anderlecht. He is good on the ball, reads the game well and looks to stride forward, lending himself to a role further up the field.
Sagna is out of contract this summer and looks almost certain to move on in search of a fresh challenge after Saturday’s FA Cup final, while Vermaelen has been a peripheral figure over the course of the campaign and could leave to find regular first-team football elsewhere if the right offer materialises.
We are going to need to bring at least two central defenders to offer support and provide back-up for Mertesacker and Koscielny, who have forged an excellent partnership at the back this season. Kouyate already has 5 caps for Senegal, has plenty of experience and with just two years left on his contract we could be able to pick him up at a reasonable price.
