Arsenal are in talks with Real Sociedad over the futures of Carlos Vela and Antoine Greizmann and one of them could end up at the Emirates this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Greizmann has been a star player for the Spanish side, managing 16 goals and three assists in the league this campaign and has attracted interest from top clubs around Europe.
Arsenal have also been linked with Carlos Vela, with the Mexican tipped to make a return to the Emirates. The Gunners have inserted a clause in the 25 year old’s contract, which states that we will get 50% of any sell-on fee or we can also buy him back for just €4 million.
However, the report now states that the North London club are already in talks with Sociedad about both attackers and have put up an interesting proposal, which could see Vela stay in Spain and Griezmann move to the Emirates in a cut-price deal.
It further states that the La Liga outfit are desperate to remove the buy-back clause in Vela’s contract but can’t afford the €12 million that Arsenal are demanding, so it’s been suggested that we use that money as part-payment for Greizmann.
If the Gunners were to buy back Vela, Antoine is still likely to move to another club even if Sociedad chose not to do business with Arsenal. It is for that reason that they are pondering selling Griezmann to the North London club as that would allow them to keep hold of their striker Vela.
The French attacker has a €30 million buy-out clause so if we remove Vela’s clause then theoretically we could sign Greizmann for the remaining €18 million. Arsene Wenger himself admitted earlier this season that they are closely following the attacker.
His natural position is out on the left, but we have also seen him employed in the central and wide-right areas with equal success. He is dangerous and he drags full-backs out of position to create confusion amongst the opposition defence. His electric pace, intelligence and direct running has been a nightmare for La Liga defenders throughout this season.
The Gunners have plenty of creativity in the midfield areas and when Walcott is fit some width and speed, but with Greizmann we would have the full package. Vela is a great option at that price but when we compare him with the 23 year old, the preference would be the Frenchman. He works incredibly hard for the team and is a developing world class talent, who would give us plenty of options and add some much-needed pace in attack next season.
