Arsenal’s pursuit of young Ivorian Serge Aurier has been given the green light by Toulouse president Olivier Sadran..If the price is right.
The Gunners are facing the inevitable departure of Bacary Sagna next month when his contract expires, and it seems Arsene Wenger is looking to his homeland to replace the experienced right-back.
Aurier has made no secret of his desire to move to north London and is very open to stepping up his career to challenge himself at a larger club.
The former Lens defender, who has eight caps for Ivory Coast despite being only 21-years-old, is attracting attention around Europe and will hope to impress at this summers World Cup.
Depeche du Midi asked Sadran if his star Aurier has permission to move elsewhere this summer, he replied:
No, not even officially.
But then, true to our line of conduct, which is valid for every player, if there is an offer that cannot be refused and the moment is right…
To be precise for Serge, if there is an offer from a club in the top five or ten in Europe, and it’s acceptable, we will not refuse it.
The door has certainly been opened wide for a respectable offer from Arsenal, they should act quick especially if he enjoys a successful tournament this summer.
Sagna is effectively out the door so we need to bring a reinforcement ASAP to ensure we have players who have time to embed themselves into the squad come preseason. It will also get our summer off to a good start and allow the club to worry about one less necessary acquisition.
Aurier appears to be the type of right back we need. Extremely athletic, quick and solid. Almost a like-for-like replacement for Bacary, but unfortunately less experienced. He’s reportedly available for around the £7m mark and represents a player who can develop and challenge Carl Jenkinson for starts. He’s certainly not the finished article however.
