It would definitely be silly for Arsenal to not sign up Cesc Fabregas and Carlos Vela if not for the simple fact that they put buy back clauses in their contracts when selling them. Now would be an opportunity to buy them on the cheap and, if need be, sell them for a massive profit later. However. there are other reasons for buying these two players.
You can never have too many midfielders at Arsenal. The 2013/2014 season proved as much. Once Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, and Mesut Ozil got injured, they left a gaping hole in midfield that we did not manage to fill. Cesc Fabregas, as backup, can definitely add a spark to the midfield.
He will no doubt be smarting after watching the current team lifting a trophy, a goal he could never achieve when he was captain. He will have a point to prove especially coming back to Arsenal with his tail firmly between his legs after underachieving at Barcelona and realizing he does not have the same cult status that he had when he left.
His love for Arsenal, his obvious talent, and the fact that he will improve our team without Arsenal breaking the bank makes him an obvious choice.
£ 3.3 million! This is a no brainer. It would be understandable to be a bit skeptical if Carlos Vela had just come from an…’iffy’ season but he currently has better stats than Gareth Bale! He might not have a lot of love for Arsenal but he is another with a point to prove like Cesc Fabregas. He wants to prove that he is not a flop, that he can succeed at Arsenal. The fact that Wenger was careful enough to put a buy back clause shows that he knew the type of player he was letting go of. Carlos Vela even has better stats than his team mate Antoine Griezmann, another winger we have been linked with and whose saving grace is the fact that he is French.
I believe these two players will be the difference next season. Once we get these two players, then we can get a striker, a defensive midfielder, a right back and a left back (the supporting cast).
