Things I loved this season., not in any particular order but Ramsey will be the first in any order. Here I go
Anything positive about Arsenal this season would be incomplete without Rambo. He has been nothing short of sensational this season and his absence crippled Arsenal and most Gooners felt their title charge wouldn’t have crumbled had he not been injured. His goals, drive, energy were indispensable and it’s fair to say none have been able to replace the Welshman.
He has come a long way this term and I would put my money on him becoming the league’s player of the year next season. Hopefully he remains fit throughout the campaign and the FA decides to rescind its decision that anyone who ever touches an Arsenal jersey shouldn’t be recognized. Just have a look at the team of the season, no player from a team that led for half of the season. Cheers FA.
Mesut Ozil signs for Arsenal
Yes that was actually a statement of intent from Arsenal. When it seemed that we had wasted all summer, a bolt from the blue, we signed Mesut Ozil. That really shook the league and it was that feel good factor that triggered our run to the top. Whether he justified his price tag is a question for another day, I believe he has had a good debut season and he will tremendously improve the next. He is undoubtedly top top (copying Arsene) quality and extremely intelligent player who will light the league. Did Bergkamp become God in his first season?
August to November
Well that was our best start I could remember since 07-08. Excluding the Villa game, that was so catastrophic, an Emergency was declared in and around Emirates and only Mesut Ozil’s diplomatic intervention prevented World War III. We played some fantastic football, vintage Arsenal stuff and the icing on the cake was that goal against Norwich. It was shall we say orgasmic. We played some of that fast and powerful counter attacking football not seen since the days of the Invincibles. The Napoli game, I believe is probably our best of the season, Liverpool at home (league) comes a close second, but that Champions League night was simply magical. Those four months we were simply unstoppable, won away at Dortmund, the famed SAS lost in Koscielny’s pocket and Ramsey ran riot.
I am going to defend our defence. This season our defensive performance has improved considerably and were it not for those away games, we would be on course for the best defence this season. Szczesny will win the Golden Glove if he keeps a clean sheet at Carrow Road. Those away games have skewed the defensive record a bit and excluding those horrible 20, we have conceded a miserly 21 from 33 games. Our improvement is also down to the fact that we have had a settled back four. Bac, Mertescielny, Kossacker,( I hope they are reborn as conjoined twins) and Gibbs. Szczesny has come of age this season and has been an under appreciated contributor. He needs competition and if Fabianski leaves, we must buy another keeper and not contemplate the idea of playing Diaby there.
Flamini the midfield murderer
I have to be honest, I wasn’t greatly impressed when Arsenal signed him again, he left us in controversial circumstances that burnt a few bridges. But those were soon bridged when he slid on a Spurs player and received a booking. It’s rumoured that Flamini has never gone a game without getting booked since time began.
The Frenchman has definitely protected our back four and he offers a different dimension to that of Arteta. Arteta’s more of an artist passing and probing, while Flamini is a ruthless warrior slaying and sliding. Like the Spaniard, he works best with Ramsey, although in Arsenal’s best performance -Napoli at home he partnered Mikel Arteta.
There is a lot of fun when Chelsea, Spurs, United are around
Well those three did their best in who will go down as the most hilarious in 2014. Actually I think the honour must be shared. Man Utd did that the whole season, Moyes, Rooney’s contract, records tumbled at Old Trafford, WestBrom won there for the first time in a generation, Newcastle, Everton, Sunderland all won. Record for the records broken and I almost forgot the World’s best midfielder- Fellaini.
Our neighbours excelled in patches, they spent millions on a guy to take penalties, spent even more on men dressed as footballers and the most comical of all, their manager. Seriously I wish he could remain Spurs manager forever. The guy is so much fun and I am curious to know what he would hurl when Arsenal score four or five. Mmm, that should be given a thought.
Nothing more pleasing than John Terry and Ashley Cole crying. And what about Mourinho- the Special-turned-happy-turned-moaning-turned-I will stop there. He literally pushed Mata out of the club and his record at home was ended by Sunderland. And he has lost four Champions League semifinals in a row. Specialist in failure.
