Olivier Giroud doesn’t always get the credit he deserves at Arsenal. He has scored 16 in the Premier League this season, while also assisting his team mates 8 times, often with his trademark flicks. He is incredibly strong, has fantastic aerial ability, and his all round game is pretty important to the way Arsenal play. However, many Arsenal fans will feel frustrated at the French forward. He has a poor record of finishing one on ones, often fails to show up in big games and has waned towards the end of the season due to fatigue, as he is currently our only recognised striker. That is why it is no surprise that Arsenal have been linked with other strikers, including Karim Benzema and a whole host of Premier League based players.
Many fans are excited by the idea of having Benzema in our squad next year, however I believe that we should in not be targeting Karim Benzema, who currently plays for Real Madrid, and instead should be going after Swansea City’s Wilfred Bony and Queens Park Ranger’s, currently on loan at Newcastle United, Loic Remy. Here are three reasons why Arsene Wenger should do this.
One – Price
Karim Benzema will not come cheap. He moved to the Bernabeu for £30,000,000 in 2009, and after a successful spell there, will cost even more to prise him away from the 10 time European champions. However, signing Bony and Remy will cost less. Recent rumours are suggesting that Bony will be available for around £18,000,000, and Remy has a well publicised release clause of around £6,000,000. That comes to £24,000,000, meaning that not only do we have more players, we also spend less money on bringing them in. This takes a smaller chunk out of our transfer budget, leaving sufficient funds to strength other area’s, which may include defensive midfielder, goalkeeper, right back and centre back.
Two – Premier League experience
Premier League experience is not something to be taken lightly. Mesut Ozil has had a decent first season at Arsenal, but has taken time to adapt this season, often causing him to be on the wrong end of unfair criticism from the media. Benzema took some time to adapt at Real Madrid, meaning in the early years certain areas of the Real Madrid fan base were labelling him as a flop, amongst other things. Arsenal cannot afford for Benzema to take time to fit in. Arsenal require instant impact. We would not need to be concerned about this with Remy and Bony, who both have experience playing in the Premier League.

Three – They complement each other perfectly
Remy is blessed with pace. He can outrun any defender in the Premier League (bar perhaps our own Koscielny). He is also a good dribbler of the ball. He combines these qualities with devastating effect, using his abilities to cause confusion between opposition centre backs. Bony is an all round striker. he has strength, a fair amount of pace and is good in the air. This means that it is hard for a defender to predict what he will do. The contrasting qualities mean that the two, or either one with Giroud, could form a striker partnership that shatters all before them.
As you can see, I would prefer Remy and Bony over Benzema. Who would you prefer?
