The 23 year old was very impressive for Lyon last season scoring four goals and providing five assists in 28 Ligue appearances for the French club, and has regularly been linked with the Gunners over the past year.
According to the report Grenier has made his way back into the Gunners list of summer targets, and is valued at around £7.5 million by his club Olympique Lyon.
The youngster was due to be part of the France World Cup squad in Brazil and was in the original squad of 23 named by boss Didier Deschamps. But he was injured just six days before the tournament started and was replaced by another Gunners target – Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin.
Apparently Arsene Wenger has asked to be kept updated on Grenier’s progress back towards fitness. If he’ll be fit by the start of the season, the French manager could make his move this summer.
Grenier is a very skillful and perfectly weighted midfield play-maker. He’s great on the ball, has excellent technical ability and can take a mean free kick. He has beautiful balance, a great eye for a pass and the ability to skip by players while creating space for both him and his teammates.
He is a typical Arsenal type player and would instantly suit the slick passing style that Wenger has made an institution at the Emirates. His style is perfectly suited to the Arsenal way, but it is an area in which the Gunners already have talent in abundance. The North London club already have the likes of Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky, while they have rejected re-signing ex-captain Cesc Fabregas due to their depth in attacking midfield areas.
Few reports in the past few weeks have stated that Cazorla might be on the move to Athletico Madrid so may be Wenger is lining him up as a replacement to the Spaniard. He would be a great addition to the squad if he is so cheap and IF Cazorla departs. However that is unlikely.
