The German International has found it difficult to be part of Ancelotti’s first team plans last season, missing much of it to injury as well as some poor form.
The Gunners were linked with the 27 year old back in January but any potential move was put on the back-burner after he was sidelined with a serious knee injury that saw him miss practically the entire second half of the season.
The report suggests that Arsene Wenger is interested in bringing the midfielder to the Emirates and the Gunners are lining up a £16 million bid. Real Madrid have been linked with the likes of Paul Pogba, Marco Verratti and Ramires in recent months, so Carlo Ancleotti could be more inclined to sell Khedira if he lands one of his key midfield transfer targets in the transfer window.
The Gunners are in the market for a defensive midfielder to eventually replace Arteta and Flamini. The Spaniard has been a loyal soldier at Arsenal and there is no doubting his class, but there is no getting around the fact that his age means that he no longer has the legs to be a defensive midfielder at the top level for much longer. Meanwhile the Frenchman has added some a combative nature to the side but is not quite the top class midfielder we crave.

Khedira is a tough tackler who has a wonderful sense of the game and can also control any game without resorting to too much physicality. His ball distribution skill is spot on and any club would be lucky to have him. There would be an element of obvious risk in signing him considering that he has missed majority of the season, but it is worth noting that he did make a successful return in early May and made five appearances in all competitions, including the Champions League final.
He is a world class defensive midfielder and if Arsenal really get him for £16 million then it is nothing short of daylight robbery, as players of his class are not often ‘available’ on the market. He is an improved version of Arteta and will help turn Arsenal into a world class team provided the Gunners get another striker and right back in this transfer window.
